About Us

About B.L.A.S.T.

B.L.A.S.T. was created with the purpose of bringing together Black leaders from different industries and backgrounds to work together to address the root causes of sex trafficking, to educate, and to provide solutions and support for survivors. The secondary meaning of BLAST is rooted in our core values, Building Partnerships, accessing Legal Resources, exposing Anti-Oppression, breaking Systematic Change, and Training – each letter representing a core value that guides the initiative’s efforts. By working together to address the systemic issues that contribute to sex trafficking, such as poverty and lack of access to education and employment opportunities, B.L.A.S.T. aims to create a world where sex trafficking is no longer possible.

Our Core Values

Our focus on people of color, which are disproportionately affected by sex trafficking.

A holistic approach

We address the root causes of sex trafficking; poverty, homelessness, lack of education and access to resources.

Our commitment

To empower community leaders so they can teach their communities to be safe, secure and sustained.

Innovative programs and initiatives

We are changing the way people think about sex trafficking and survivor empowerment.

Partnerships & Alliances

Unity allows us to amplify our impact and bring about real change around the world.

According to recent statistics, Black girls are 7 times more likely to be sex trafficked than caucasian girls.

Black Leaders Against Sex Trafficking, (hereafter known as BLAST) is a nationwide initiative that aims to bring attention and change to the devastating issue of sex trafficking in the African-American community. Sex trafficking is a form of Modern-Day Slavery that disproportionately affects people of color, especially women and children.
